Attempting to swim between minimalist aesthetics, the noisy outbursts of off-beat rock and the freedom of improvisation, Quaich was born in Greece but found itself washed out in The Hague. Having started as a punky youthful burst of energy some time ago and despite members moving between several countries, the group retained its initial energetic spark while gradually exploring a more delicate sonic side.
Sticking to the band’s grotty beginnings and love for stripped down minimalist riffs, emaciated dreamy clouds of sound, and a desire for a musical output that is catchy, grooving, yet challenging, “and now that we are here” is a labour of love, created in complicated and stressful conditions, with an intense liveliness and passion. Constantly being rehearsed, performed and slightly altered - and culminating in a careful balance of nuanced structures, whilst also keeping space for spatterings of controlled improvisation - the songs were developed over the better part of a year but were recorded live in a single day.

"This release passes as quickly one of my favorites this year [...] 'and now that we are here', grips an extraordinary power that isn’t necessarily easy to produce, sometimes wild with velvet ripples of silent madness stirring in the spaces of each song, or other times completely seperated from its orginal excursion, yet bounded by laden-dreams forever expanding. I highly recommend keeping an ear out for Quaich, I have a feeling they’re going to be a gem in this world."
-- Sutter Greaves, ANTI : Music --
"Quaich is a remarkable post-rock trio [...] The album comprises six compositions, which rotate between minimalism, complexity, intense dissonance, brilliant harmonizations, but above all, marvelous musicianship [...] Each number bursts with various sonic delicacies that will undoubtfully suit the admirers of post-punk, art-punk, indie rock, noise rock, psychedelic rock, and post-rock."
-- Djordje Miladinovic, THOUGHTS WORDS ACTION --
"and now that we are here is the first record under the name Quaich, and it’s surely a testament to show the world that these musicians truly are “here”. Transmitting through the propagated mountains of Greece, up the coast of the largest stretch of the Balkans, and finalizing itself into the seat of Central Europe, Quaich is a great example of mysterious waves of the underground Euro art world".
-- Pat Lemieux, Ottawa Experimental Music/Hexon Bogon 93.1 FM CKCU --
"[Quaich] collected ways to describe their current situation in this crazy world we live in. But this is not a cry for help. It is an honest summary of what is going on that creates a safe space where you can breathe freely [...] listening to the album feels like looking at old photos while talking to friends in a safe space and concerning both past and present. Like catching a deep breath "and now that we are here" gives the impression of recalling what happened and being glad to live in the present".
-- Raphael Lukas, MangoWave Reviews --
[translated from Greek] “The band, based between Athens and The Hague, knocks on our door with a bouquet of six (approximately) musical motifs, which transport us from the middle of the 70s, to today and to several years in the future. The motif here is one of narrative, with instruments standing on both simplicity and complexity, and vocals that are so calm and friendly to the ear.”
