"I am pleased to share Church's 'Stop The World, I Want To Get Off' with everyone through this medium.
This has been one of my favourite releases among my musical companions and close friends.
 
Church was a trio based in Leeds, UK, built by Harley Johnson on synths, vocals & objects, James Milligan on electric guitar and loops and Simon Henry on drums. It would be a shame to pinpoint their music by saying they are a ’noise rock’ outfit, as they were exploring an approach to music which is harder to define.
 
Combining chunks of noise and post rock, improvised sections followed by meditative and immense walls of sound, Church delves into a freer and much wilder approach to the combination of their chosen pallet of sounds. Originally released in September 2017, the EP sees the band delivering 3 tracks of rock exploration through loose composition and improvisation, offering a portal to a multitude of different times and places.
 
With this record Church expanded the map for my younger and less adventurous ears at the time. Recorded and mixed beautifully by Tom Orrell at The Nave and mastered by Matt at Glide Studios in Leeds, this EP marks the bands’ only studio recording. 


During this chaotic time we are in as a species, this music feels even more relevant than when it was originally released. It provided me with a noisy gateway to experiencing an emotional and spiritual uplifting that brought about a feeling of grounding by the end of it.
 
It feels great to be around friends who created something that inspires me to this day.
